Monk Brothers (1873 – 1900)

Monk Brothers silversmith and Jeweller, listed as makers and retailers, may have been part of the Monk Watchmaking dynasty from Bolton.

George Monk a silversmith and Jeweller listed in 1881 is believed to have possibly formed a partnership with his younger brother Frederick, and they used the name on their products.

Monk Brothers, Bolton. An 18ct Gold keyless wind open face pocket watch. Case & Movement No.4060, London Hallmark for 1888 Gilt 3/4 plate English lever movement, white dial with black Roman numerals, black outer minute and 1/5th second tracks, blued steel spade hands with centre seconds, polished hinged case 

This watch, probably a bought in movement by Williamson’s was decorated for World War One as the “Plucky Four” Recruitment Pocket Watch 1915
