Thomas Partington was born in Kearsley to John and Ann Partington, Provision dealers of Prestolee in 1844. Thomas was listed as an apprentice watchmaker in 1861 living at home with the family in Manchester Road, Kearsley Moor, which would now be called Bolton Road Farnworth.
On the 9th of Feb 1869 Thomas, still living in Kearsley, married Isabella Hardacre in Kirkby Malham in Yorkshire.

Setting up home in Farnworth, they established a shop together on Higher Market Street near the Black Horse Pub.
By 1890 they were listed as trading from their shop.
In 1870 Mrs Isabela Partington was listed as the proprietor, Isablella married Watchmaker James Tonge in 1881.
