Jesse Lowe was a Clock and Watchmaker, born in 1818, in Edgworth near Bolton. He was the son of Stonemason Arthur Lowe and his wife Nancy.
He married Tamar Waddicar of Holcombe, in Bolton Parish Church and they lived at Spring Terrace in Turton Bottoms, where he raised his family James, Peter and John. He is recorded there in 1841.
Tamar had died in 1846 and by 1850 Jesse had remarried and also moved his business to Over Darwen.
Further marriages and children followed.
Jesse established his business at 2 Bridge Street Darwen where he moved his family.

Jesse had a son James Lowe (1840-1925) who also became a Watchmaker, based in Over Darwen.
Another John Lowe (1901-1911) worked in Bolton as a Watchmaker, but he is not an immediate relation to Jesse.
A number of clocks and watches attributed to Jesse survive, but as yet no photographs have been obtained.
