J. Wylder

Research continues on this maker and the possible linkage to Joseph Wilde and also J. Wylde.

It seems most likely that the worn paint on this clock has been mis-read, and the maker was J. Wylde due to the commonality in design features of the clocks.

A George III oak and mahogany cross banded eight day long-case clock listed as signed by J. Wylder, Bolton, the 36cm painted square dial with a crescent shaped rolling moon aperture and subsidiary second dial, signed with the makers name and enclosing the two train movement striking on a saucer bell, the shaped door flanked by quarter reeded pillars.
