George Cary was born in Bristol before the family moved to Wales where he married in Merthyr Tydfil. By 1869 he was living in Farnworth where his daughter was born.
George was a Jeweller and Watchmaker at 80 Market Street in Farnworth.
George Died in 1886, whereupon his son George Albert Cary, took over the business running it with his Mother Alice Cary. as Cary & Son.
An eight-day moon phase clock by George Cary with a single family history since the 1890’s. The clock has a painted arched Moon Phase or Roller Moon, the main dial with subsidiary seconds and date dials, the movement the movement striking on a bell.
The richly painted dial is typical of the time displaying four women depicting the four seasons.
