William Wood (1841-1866)

William Wood, the son of William Wood and his wife Betty Brookbank, William was firstly a Blacksmith and latterly a Whitesmith.

William (Jnr) Born in Bolton in 1817 was listed as was a watchmaker in Mawdesley Street in the 1841 census. it is possible that William Wood was the William Wood (Jnr) listed as trading from Folds Street in 1841-55.

The Town Hall Tavern on Old Hall Street South, after the centre of the street and the courts including No5 Court, were lost to development of the Town Hall.

William the watchmaker married Elizabeth Bamber in 1847, and they lived in No 5 Court off Old Hall Street in the centre of town.

He is also mentioned as trading from Bradshawgate.

By 1861 aged he was listed as a watch cleaner at 29 Old Hall Street, possibly displaced from No 5 Court by the planned town hall development.

William died in 1866 and is buried in the Tonge Cemetery on 30th October 1866.

In 1864 much of Old Hall Street was lost to the development of the Town Hall site.

There are no known examples of his work.
