In 1881 aged 14 William was apprenticed to be a Watchmaker, Living with his parents and family in Back High Street, Great Bolton.
William was born in Litchurch Derby, white his siblings were from Bolton, by 1890 he had followed into his fathers profession.
It is unknown if he ever made watches in his own right.
