Samuel is listed as an Apprentice to the Clock and Watchmaker John Royle in Great Bolton starting on Nov 24th 1736 when the Apprentice taxes were paid.
No known examples of Samuels work in Bolton are known, and it is unknown if he traded there in his own name. Samuel did however set up and move to 21 Sheaf Street, Poulton – Le – Fylde in 1744, from where he traded as a clock maker for a number of years.
