Carl was a Clockmaker born in Baden Germany in 1852, by the 1880’s he was living in Salford, and it seems likely that he changed careers in Bolton to become a telegraph engineer, a skill closely aligned to his existing watchmaking skills, he is listed as the Telegraph Engineer and as a Mechanic. His name is spelt variously Carl and Karl in the records and he married Sarah Jane Wilson at the Parish Church in Bolton.
During his time in Bolton he lived at 203 Manchester Road he is not known to have produced any clocks during his time in Bolton.
