William Whittle of Walkden was born in 1826 and lived predominantly on Bolton Road in Walkden. He was originally a Fancy Stationer on Bolton Lane, Walkden, he was then listed in the 1881 Census as a Dealer & Repairer Of Watches & Clocks & Jeweller, located at 234 Bolton Road Walkden.
By 1891 he was listed as a Watch & Clock Jobber, and he is also listed in Kelly’s Directory 1895 as a Watch and Clock maker at 44 Bolton Road Walkden.
It is likely that he sold and repaired clocks watches and jewellery, and possibly never produced timepieces in his own name.
