William Standfast the Watch and Clockmaker appears in Bolton as a Watchmaker, then a few years apart a similar William Standfast Watchmaker appears in Rochdale. It’s likely to be one and the same person, moving towns as often happened in the industry at the time.

During his time in Bolton he was based at Hotel Street, and in 1873 claimed against the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway for damage to his goods.

In the Post Office Directory of 1876, he was listed as a Watchmaker and Goldsmith at 2 Hotel Street and a watchmaker and Jeweller at 41 Deansgate in Bolton.
A Silver cased Centre Seconds Chronograph 99602 by William Standfast of Rochdale. Signed on the dial and on the movement as William Standfast 142 Yorkshire Street Rochdale. Hallmarked for the year 1885.
