Watchmaker William John Hargreaves born on 12th November 1884 in Farnworth, and in 1901 he was listed working as a Jeweller and Goldsmith aged 16 living in the family home of 23 Fern Street.
In 1911 he was living with his widowed mother in 23 Fern Street, where he was listed as a watch repairer aged 26.
He married Elizabeth Edgerly, of Southport, at St Thomas’s Church on 23rd April 1913, and he was there listed living at 16 Glynne Street Farnworth.
In 1914 he is listed as a Watchmaker at 23 Fern Street Farnworth.
On 11th December 1915 watchmaker William John Hargreaves enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery to fight in World War One, his Service Number 137488, he was listed as living in Southport with this wife and two children,Robert born 4th May 1914 and Elizabeth Mary 18th October 1915 in 74 Virginia Street, Southport.

Fortunately surviving WW1 he was discharged on 9th Feb 1919, with a 20% disability, for DAH, Disorderly Action of the Heart, aggravated by war. His service earning the Victory Medal and the British War medal.
By 1931 he was living in 26 Brindle Heath Road Salford, from where his wife was taken to Hope Hospital, where she died. In 1939 he is listed in the 1939 census still at 26 Brindle Heath Road.
William John Hargreaves died at his home 5 Seedley Road Pendleton on 10th September 1941. He is buried with his wife in Farnworth Cemetery.
