On 11 Sep 1889 he married his wife, Cecelia Kearton from Blackburn, at Fletcher Street, Wesleyan Methodist Church, in Bolton.
In 1901 he was listed as living in Farnworth, but by 1911 he had returned to Atherton.
Joseph died in 1920 aged 56.
