In April 1914 he advertised in the book accompanying St. Stephens Church, Kearsley Moor fro their Grand Bazaar.

As a driver for the Royal Field Artillery he was sadly killed in action on 17th April 1918 in the area of Hazebrouck. He is buried in Le Grand Hasard Military Cemetery, Morbecque, France. Plot 4. Row B. Grave 12.
