Eli Crowther (1871 -1899)

Eli Crowther the watchmaker was born in Todmorden in 1829, travelling via homes in Sowerby Bridge, Ovenden Halifax, Habergham Eaves finally to Bolton where he settled and married.

He married Hannah Howarth from Bradshaw in 1856 and in 1861 lived at 9 Bank Top.

He worked at 68 Blackburn Road in Astley Bridge, Bolton.

He was listed Worrall’s Directory of 1871 as a watchmaker, and in the 1874 census as a Powerloom Overlooker and Watchmaker.

By 1895 Eli was listed as a Confectioner at number 78 Blackburn Road and on his sons marriage certificate a year later.

Eli Crowther died on 27 Aug 1899 aged 70, and was buried at St Paul’s Astley Bridge.
