G.B. Giobbio (often inscribed as G. Giobbio) was an instrument maker and optician who produced traditional stick and wall barometers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
G. Giobbio was part of a family or network of itinerant Italian instrument makers active in various parts of Britain during the Georgian and Victorian eras (with records linking Giobbio makers to locations like Bolton, Rochdale, Trowbridge, and Devizes).
A George III period mahogany stick barometer with engraved silvered scale C.1810. The moulded edge case with book matched feathered veneers and fruitwood stringing. Swan neck pediment to the top with hinged opening door, silvered scale behind with alcohol action thermometer set to the side, turned cistern cover to the base, original mercury action movement. Bears the makers name G Giobbio, Bolton to the scale.
