James Henry Proffitt (1871-1939)

James Henry Proffitt the master Watchmaker was born in Bolton on 3rd September 1854 and he comes from the Bolton dynasty of home furnishers ‘Proffitt’s of Bolton.’ The family lived at The White Hart Inn at 157 Blackburn Street in Great Bolton, where his father was Landlord in 1851 where James Henry was aged 15, and working as a Watchmaker.

Son of John Proffitt and Johanna Seddon, he was a master Watchmaker living variously at 73 & 75 Weston Street, He was the father of James Proffitt

By 1881 James Henry was married to Elizabeth Ann Rostron in April 1876.

by 1911 James Henry was living at 145 Great moor street with his family and he died at 145 Great Moor Street Bolton on 22nd November 1939, leaving his assets to his son James and daughters Ada and Bertha who worked in their brothers shop as Watches Clocks and Tool, shop assistants.
