Samuel Greenough (1853 – 1891)

Samuel Greenough a former cotton spinner from Turton, was a watchmaker listed in 1868 as at 61 Higher Bridge Street. In 1871 the firm moved and he was living and working at 45 Cheapside (Newport Street) in his shop called Public Clock, with his wife and children, two of whom, George and Alfonza, would join him in the family business as Samuel Greenough and Sons.

Samuel’s Cheapside shop opened on Dec 1st 1868, with a first-class Stock of Watches, in Gold and Silver, of every description.

The 1876 Post Office Directory listed Samuel as a Watchmaker and Jeweller.
