John Baptist Birckley was born in Baden Baden, Germany, and was living in Bolton with his uncle John Tritchler at 46 Bradshawgate. he became a Naturalised British Subject in 1873
Living at 11 Lyndhurst Street he was listed as trading from 1881-1895 employing a man and boy.
He was listed as Watchmaker and Jeweller in 1891, and a Bolton Freemason in 1891.
John was described in 1876 as a Watch and Clock maker, and Jeweller at Lyndhurst Street by the Post Office Directory.
By 1911 he was working from 42 Argyle Street Bolton.
As well as his own products, J.B. Birckley may have been working for his uncle John Tritchler, with his work marketed under John’s name.
A 12” (30cm) Papier-mâché dial clock by J.B Birckley dating from 1850-1860 it has a fusee movement, and with flowers and inlaid with haliotis shell against a black ground.
